10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
801 E. Douglas Ave, Suite 106, Wichita KS
PLAY TOUCH MAKE workshop is designed to highlight the beauty and importance of braille through play and is based around color-coded Braille Scrabble tiles to create words through touch and their associated color exploring language and how we perceive letters in a unique way. Like the ‘M’ in McDonald’s, we associate the Yellow ‘M’ with that of McDonald’s. Each letter in the alphabet has been given a designated color so that sighted individuals can become more familiar with Braille through color by the end of the workshop.
Designed for all ages and all abilities, hosted at Envision Arts Gallery: RSVP here.
Inspired by Scrabble, a board-and-tile game created to pass time in America in the 1930’s, in which two to four players compete in forming words with lettered tiles on a 225-square board. The letter tiles when positioned interlock with one another to create a different word, like a crossword puzzle, moving up, down, and side-to-side.
Workshop Details: Let’s Play Scrabble!
• Introduction by Clarke Reynolds, The Blind Braille Artist
• Split into 4 groups to begin a game of Scrabble
• Break
• Artistically design and assemble paper cubes using a color-coded braille system
• In closing we will share about our experience and the creations we made
Creative Art Materials
A variety of tactile and drawing materials will be used to create Paper Cubes that are inspired by the Color-Coded Braille System.
