Dr. Jing Xu is a Bosma Enterprises Research Fellow at the Envision Research Institute, working under the mentorship of Dr. Alex Bowers, an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Research Scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear.

While at Envision, Dr. Xu has studied how individuals with visual impairments interact with various driver assistance technologies such as front-collision avoidance or blind spot warnings. She is using the findings from this study, and others she has done, to adapt and develop new smart technology for vehicles
that are designed with the visuallyimpaired driver in mind. As part of her efforts, she has developed a virtual driving environment at Envision, and has been gathering data in simulated driving scenarios.

Dr. Xu finished her fellowship with the Envision Research Institute at the end of June. As is tradition, she presented the work she has accomplished during her fellowship at a brown bag lunch on June 29th in the Envision Research Institute training center.
