WICHITA, Kan. – Envision announced today that it has secured a contract with Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support to produce 60,000 foam pads to be used in flight deck crewman helmets. Production of the foam pads, which are fitted into helmets worn by crews directing, launching and landing aircraft on the flight decks of aircraft carriers, is expected to continue through spring 2021.

“This contract is a great example of Envision’s ability to move quickly to meet the urgent needs of our partners in the U.S. military,” said Envision President and CEO Michael Monteferrante. “Envision’s track record of excellence and superior customer service made us the perfect candidate to fulfill this critical supply chain role.”

Right now, Envision is cutting the foam pads to size at its Dallas manufacturing facility and then transferring them to Wichita, where they are affixed to the insides of the helmets.

“It’s a great honor to be asked to produce items that will benefit and protect members of the military, and, in doing so, to be able to provide work for more individuals with vision loss,” said Envision’s General Manager of Manufacturing Barney Macari. “We responded quickly to a request from the Defense Logistics Agency, which was very beneficial in helping us secure the contract.”

Envision has nearly 500 employees in 11 states and is one of the country’s largest employers of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Envision’s manufacturing operations located in Wichita and Dallas produce items used by the U.S. military, local/state/national government offices and the general public as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Meaningful employment opportunities created by Envision not only help to combat the 70 percent national unemployment rate among individuals who are blind or visually impaired, but also generate revenue that funds a wide range of programs and services for people with vision loss living across the United States.
