Envision Kids Club
Alison Roets, age 9, is legally blind from rod cone dystrophy. She reads Braille and large print text.
Alison’s mother, Megan, says, “We believe that Envision has helped her out in so many ways. They understand Alison and her vision impairment and help her to see the world as clearly as she can. Kids Club is awesome! She cannot wait until the next event. She enjoys being around the other kids and not being told that ‘she cannot do that’ due to her vision. Envision gives us the information and tools to help Alison.”

The Envision Kids Club is a support group addressing the needs of children with a visual impairment. The group includes families and professionals, such as school personnel, physicians, and Envision’s vision rehabilitation staff. Kids Club is a collaborative effort between Envision and members of the Delta Gamma Sorority of Wichita State University. Kids Club meets monthly, providing fun social events that also provide peer support and education from vision rehabilitation professionals. Envision Kids Club is for school age children, kindergarten through high school.
Kids Club currently has a membership of 60 children and their family members with typically 30 children attending each month. Monthly support meetings allow vision rehabilitation staff to monitor rehabilitation progress and diagnostic changes in the children more closely, allowing the patients needs to be met in more a holistic, non-clinical environment, and interventions to occur in a timely manner. Support group meetings will have a major developmental impact in assisting children with vision loss, their caregivers, and family members adjust to vision loss helping them to remain independent in their home, school, and community.
Enrollment is open. Call the Envision Low Vision Rehabilitation Center at (316) 440-1600 for more information.
