Services

A child works with a vision rehabilitation specialist on putting a puzzle together, vision rehabilitation exercise Envision offers a wide variety of vision rehabilitation services to help people who are blind or have low vision become more independent. Traveling safely and independently, overcoming social barriers and reading personal mail are a few examples of daily challenges faced by individuals who experience vision loss. Specific skills are needed to accomplish these tasks that millions of successful people use every day.

The Envision Low Vision Rehabilitation Center offers services and resources to people who are blind or have low vision that need assistance in gaining specific skills to live more independently. Whether a person has recently lost his or her sight or has always been blind, Envision's specialists can evaluate needs, offer resources and provide services to assist individuals in adapting to vision loss.

Assistive Technology Envision provides individuals who are blind or have low vision with computer training necessary to be competitive in today's work force. Sessions include customer service, the Internet and other advanced job seeking skills. Funding may be available to help cover the cost of the classes. Resource Referrals The Envision Low Vision Rehabilitation Center staff provides information concerning resources available to them in the community.

Orientation and Mobility Orientation and Mobility (O & M) services provide training to assist individuals who are blind to travel independently.

Techniques taught include traveling with a cane or guide dog, use of public transportation and maximizing the use of low vision. Training also involves environmental cues and use of compass directions.

Employment Outreach Employment in Envision's manufacturing and retail operations is actively pursued in the recruitment of people who are blind. A social worker works closely with an outreach manager to assist in placing individuals in the programs.

Work Adjustment Work adjustment services are designed to assess work behaviors and/or to assist the individual in acquiring particular behaviors or goals. Work adjustment is a long duration training program and may involve a combination of individual counseling, workshop and/or community-site experience and group sessions. Topics covered in this service may include appropriate attendance, punctuality, work speed, work quality, grooming and supervision/co-worker relationships.


Personal and Social Adjustment Envision's Personal and Social Adjustment Instruction (PSA) is an adult life skills program that teaches personal management and independent living skills. A PSA instructor and Rehabilitation Teacher provide services in health and nutrition, shopping, assistive technology and community inclusion.

Work Activities Located in Wichita and licensed by the State of Kansas to serve multi-disabled, developmentally disabled blind individuals, Envision's Work Activities Center is specially designed for people who are blind and multi-disabled and/or developmentally disabled. Personal assistance and activities provided by the center assist consumers in maintaining and/or advancing their vocational skills.

Work-related skills, work habits, as well as personal and social adjustment skills are taught in an environment that promotes independence and skill development.


Envision is a community service provider under the developmental disabilities program in Kansas.

Transportation The transportation program at Envision is designed to meet the supplemental transportation needs of consumers and employees who are blind. However, all Sedgwick County residents who are eligible for Specialized Transportation Services may access Envision's transportation program through the Wichita Metropolitan Transit Authority at (316) 265-7221.
