Envision has expanded and grown throughout the years to become a leading resource in the region for people who are blind or low vision. Here are a few of the highlights of our history.
  • 2003 – Envision expands to include the Envision Rehabilitation Center, an eye-clinic specializing in low vision management and care.
  • 2002 – www.whitecanesandmore.com offers adaptive aids online.
  • 2001 – Envision established its assistive technology lab to teach computer skills to individuals who are blind or low vision.
  • 2000 – A Commercial Printing Division was formed to provide mailing services and more printing options to a large base of customers.
  • 2000 – Wichita facility moved from 801 E. Lincoln to a state-of-the-art facility at 2301 S. Water.
  • 1997 – Envision assumed management of several base supply centers on military installations throughout the Midwest and west.
  • 1997 – The name was changed to Envision to reflect the expansion of services.
  • 1996 – A Governmental Affairs Department was formed to influence legislation effecting people with vision loss.
  • 1993 – In response to the statewide needs survey; Envision opened a manufacturing facility in Pittsburg, Kansas.
  • 1991 – The agency conducted a needs assessment survey of people who are blind within the state of Kansas. Results of the survey were used to develop new programs and identify new facility locations.
  • 1990 – A rehabilitation department was formed to provide specialized services for people who are blind or low vision. New programs are being added every year.
  • 1988 – Envision entered into a joint agreement with the State of Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services to assume management responsibilities of the state-owned manufacturing facility in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • 1986 – The name was changed to Wichita Industries & Services for the Blind.
  • 1973 – The agency moved to 801 E. Lincoln.
  • 1948 – The name changed to the Kansas Foundation for the Blind.
  • 1931 – Founded as the Wichita Workshop and Training School for the Adult Blind.
