A recent press release from VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, Inc.announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have established a reimbursement plan for the Implantable Miniature Telescope (IMT™ by Dr. Isaac Lipshitz), effective October 1, 2011.
According to the release, the FDA has approved the telescope implant to improve vision in patients with the most advanced form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Eligible patients have central visual field deficits associated with AMD that are not responsive to current AMD treatments.
